Martin Sheen Adds to Illustrious Career in The Amazing Spider Man

Martin Sheen joins Sally Field in the cast of "The Amazing Spider-Man."

Decorated actor Martin Sheen continues his remarkable career with a turn in the summer blockbuster “The Amazing Spider-Man.”

Sheen will complete his fifth decade as a professional television and film actor next year. The star has appeared in films ranging from 1979’s “Apocalypse Now” to 1987’s “Wall Street” to a successful run as the star of the hit television drama “The West Wing.”

Sheen also is the host of In Focus with Martin Sheen on many public television stations. The show is also online at www.infocusptv.com.

Sheen is joined in “The Amazing Spider-Man” by celebrated actress Sally Field. Field has twice won Academy Awards and is one of the most recognizable faces in American film.

Denis Leary, star of FX’s “Rescue Me” and several films rounds out the veteran component of the cast.

Two relative newcomers take on the daunting task of carrying a summer blockbuster. Andrew Garfield takes on the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone plays his love interest Gwen Stacy. Interestingly, Garfield and Stone are dating in real life.

The film is directed by Marc Webb.

“The Amazing Spider-Man” is a complete reinvention of the Spider-Man story, drawing from the traditional comic book legend. Sony Pictures decided back in 2010 to abandon a fourth installment of the previous Spider-Man series in favor of a complete reboot of the series.

Through last weekend, the film has grossed more than $300 million worldwide in more than 70 countries. It had a price tag of $215 million to produce the film and follows in the success of Sony Pictures’ other summer blockbuster “Men in Black 3”

The last three film series of Spider-Man movies made $2.5 billion total between 2002 and 2007 when the final film was released.

Martin Sheen, who is in possibly his biggest film of the last decade, can be seen on the small screen on In Focus Martin Sheen. “The Amazing Spider-Man” is still in theaters.
